What Our Gas Line Services Cover
This page is the starting point for three categories of residential gas work. Each has its own dedicated service page with deeper detail. Here’s the overview:
New Gas Line Installation
Running supply piping to appliances including ranges, clothes dryers, water heaters, furnaces, outdoor grills, fire pits, and whole-home standby generators. Every installation is sized to the BTU demand of the connected appliances and the length of the pipe run.
Gas Line Repair
Addressing leaking pipe sections, corroded fittings, and failed shutoff valves. Repairs are pressure-tested before the line returns to service.
Gas Appliance Connections
Sizing and running a branch line from an existing supply to a new or replacement appliance, matched to code-approved materials and verified against total system load.

Burlington Runs on Propane, Not a Gas Main
Burlington isn’t served by Connecticut’s regulated natural gas distribution mains. The state’s utilities don’t route underground gas lines to most of the towns in this area, so the vast majority of Burlington homes with gas appliances run on propane: delivered by truck and stored in an on-site tank. Torrington is the exception among our secondary service areas. Eversource’s distribution system does reach Torrington, so homes there may connect to piped natural gas instead.
That distinction matters for sizing, materials, and regulator settings. Propane burns differently than natural gas and is stored at higher pressure. We work with both fuel types and design every system to the fuel actually in use.
Warning Signs Your Gas Line Needs Attention
Gas suppliers add a sulfur or rotten-egg scent to otherwise odorless gas precisely so leaks can be detected. If you smell it near an appliance, a pipe connection, or anywhere in the house, treat it as a leak until proven otherwise. Other signs that something is wrong include a hissing sound near fittings or valves, dead or dying vegetation in a strip above a buried line, and an unexplained spike in your propane usage between deliveries.
If you suspect an active leak, leave the area immediately, don’t operate any light switches or open flames, and call your gas supplier or 911 from outside and away from the building. Once the area has been cleared and declared safe, call us to locate and repair the source.

Permits, Pressure Testing & Connecticut Code
Gas line work in Connecticut isn’t a DIY project, and it isn’t permit-optional either. State law requires a building permit from the local authority before new gas piping or alterations to a fuel gas system begin. The installation itself is governed by the Connecticut Gas Equipment and Piping Code, administered by the State Fire Marshal. Before any new gas line is concealed or connected to appliances, it must pass a pressure test to confirm the system is leak-free.
Underground work adds one more step: Connecticut law requires contacting Call Before You Dig so existing utility lines can be marked before any excavation begins. We handle permit coordination and inspection scheduling as part of the job.
